Moda Fabrics

I am so happy to be a part of Moda Fabrics!
I work with them as a freelance designer, creating one to two collections each year for their fabric production.
When designing a collection, I carefully mix scale and complexity to create a cohesive whole. Hero prints are usually the largest, most detailed designs with the most colors, while support prints complement them, and blender prints are simpler, smaller, and often use just 2–3 colors with a repeat that can go in any direction. Even when designing multiple colorways, all the prints need to feel harmonious within the collection.

Designing for quilt fabrics adds a special challenge. Quilters often combine several prints and cut them into small pieces, so each print must look great even in a small square and in any orientation. Hero prints are an exception, as they can be directional, but the rest must remain flexible and visually appealing in a variety of uses.

Working with Moda Fabrics allows me to explore new creative directions, push the boundaries of my pattern design skills, and see my work come to life in a way that can be used and enjoyed by makers everywhere.

Each collection usually includes 8–10 unique pattern designs and colorways resulting in 25–35 different fabrics sold by the yard.
